Seolann Glór na nGael comórtas cártaí Nollag

Tá Glór na nGael le comórtas cártaí Nollag a eagrú do Ghaeilgeoirí a chónaíonn thar lear.

Le tacaíocht ón Roinn Gnóthaí Eachtracha, thosaigh Glór na nGael comórtas bliantúil i 2005, Global Gaeilge, le haitheantas a thabhairt don obair a dhéantar thar lear leis an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn.

Tugann sé spreagadh agus moladh do na grúpaí sin atá ag tabhairt faoi obair fhorbartha na Gaeilge agus síneann sé lámh an mhuintearais i dtreo na nGael thar lear agus dearbhóidh sé tábhacht na nGael sin i bpobal na Gaeilge.

Is mar fhorbairt ar Global Gaeilge atá Comórtas na gCártaí Nollag a eagrú do 2009.

Is iad na critéir do Chomórtas na gCártaí Nollag:

* Caithfidh na beannachtaí ar na cártaí bheith trí mheán na Gaeilge;
* Caithfidh na hiontrálaithe bheith ina gcónaí taobh amuigh d’Éirinn;
* Caithfidh na cártaí bheith ag ambasáid na tíre ina bhfuil an iontrálaí ina chónaí le teacht 15 Meán Fómhair 2009. Ní mheasfar iontrálacha a thagann tar éis don dáta seo;
* Ní chóir go mbeidh iontrálacha níos mó ná A4;
* Ní ghlacfar le hiontrálacha ach leis na hábhair seo a leanas: péint, pinn luaidhe, criáin, pastail/cailc nó dúch ar pháipéar nó ar chárta;
* Níl aon aois-teorainn sa chomórtas;
* Ba chóir mionsonraí teagmhála an iontrálaí bheith leis an iontráil;
* Ní fhillfear na hiontrálacha chuig na hiontrálaithe;
* Glór na nGael a dhéanfaidh meastúchán ar na hiontrálacha.

Iarrtar ar dhaoine sa Bhreatain ar suim leo páirt a ghlacadh san chomórtas, an iontráil a chur chuig:

Glór na nGael launches Christmas Card competition

Glór na nGael is organising a Christmas card competition for Irish speakers who live abroad.

With the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs Glór na nGael initiated Global Gaeilge in 2005, an annual competition to give recognition to the voluntary work overseas to promote the Irish language.

The competition encourages groups abroad that are involved in the development of the language and extends the hand of friendship to the Gael overseas, emphasising their importance in the broader Irish language community.

The Christmas card competition for 2009 builds on the success of Global Gaeilge.

The criteria for the competition are:

* Greetings on the cards must be through the medium of Irish;
* Entrants must be resident outside of Ireland;
* Entries must be with be received by the embassy of the country in which the entrant is living by 15 September 2009. Entries arriving later than this date will not be considered;
* Entries should be no larger than A4;
* Entries are limited to the following materials - paint, pencils, crayons, pastel/chalk or ink, on paper or card;
* The competition has no age limit;
* The contact details of the entrant should be included with the entry;
* Entries will not be returned to the entrants;
* Entries will be judged by Glór na nGael.

Residents in Britain who would like to participate in the competition are asked to forward their entries to:

I Mí Meán Fomhair bhí an Féile Scannán againn sa Corner House. D'éirigh go hiontach leis. Ní raibh síocháin amháin fágtha sa phictiúrlann!
Bhí an scannán é féin (Kings) thar bharr! Scéal faoi cuaigear a tháinig go dtí Londain sna seachtaidí a bhí ann ach tárlaíonn an scéal sa lá atá inniu ann.
Tháinig siad agus iad ina fir óg lena cuid brionglóidí agus a cairdeas. Ach mí-ádh a bhí acu agus theip orthu éirigh sa saol. D'fhág duine amháin acu Londain agus d'éirigh go maith leis, sa saol gnó ar aon nós. Chas na leaids eile i dtreo an deoch..
Ar lá shocraid duine acu a bhíonn an scéal. Tosnaíonn siad rudaí á phlé le chéile is ag argóint... faighimid amach faoin saol crua a bhíonn acu is an milleán a chuireann siad ar a chéile.

Bhí plé ann ina dhiadh an scannán le Eithne Ni Ghallchobhair agus tar éis sin d'fhan roinnt daoine siar le haghaidh cómhra beag. An oíche sin bhí cómhrá agus ceoil traidisiúnta i mBritons Protection.

After a while without a blog it's about time to update on the happenings of Gaeilgeoirí Manchain.

In September the Annual Film Festival was held. It was well received and not a seat was left in the cinema!

The film itself (Kings) was exceptional! It was a story of five that came to London in the seventies but the film itself shows what's happening in the present day.
They came when they were young men with their dreams and their friendship. But misfortune fell upon them and they did not succeed as hoped in life. One of them left London and managed to do well, in business at least. The rest of the lads went the way of the drink..
The story takes place on the wake of the youngest of them. They start to discuss things and begin to argue... We find out how life has treated them harshly..

After the film there was a discussion wth Eithne Ni Ghallchobhair and some stayed back for a conversation after this. That night there was conversation and music in the Britons Protection.

Many thanks to Rachel Hayward and everyone at the Corner House Cinema for ensuring once again the success of the Irish Language Film Festival. It has everyone looking forward to the next one!

Manchester Irish Language Group also had a Christmas Party. It was a great night with Bingo, Music and a Quiz all in Irish.
There has been a break in classes as is usual over the Christmas but they are well under way again! Every Tuesday night in St Kentigerns Social Club Fallowfield. Usually after the classes there is some poetry , a small video or stories in Irish and some tend to stay behind for conversation. Again, everyone is welcome to the classes. Tús maith... Bhí tús maith againn leis an aimsir, lá breá a bhí ann. Bhí an t-ádh linn mar bhí sé ag cur fearrainge an tseachtain ar fad. Bhuaileamar i stáisiúin Piccadilly Manchain. Buaitaisí, ceapairí agus as go brách linn.

Nuair a thánamar go dtí droichead Marple shúileamar go dtí bPáirc Uí Etherow.

Dhéan Éamon suas builleoga le ainmneacha agus pictiúirí gach uile planda, bláth agus crann! Bhí na héanacha go léir ar eolas ag Tony. Is éanfhairtheoir é Tony agus measaim nách bhfuil éan ann nách bhfuil eolas aige faoi. Maith sibh leaids!

Bhí dháreág againn ann go hiomlán. 's na daoine atá muid (beagáinín creacáilte le fonn eachtra) chuamar I dtreo eile ná a bhí ar an mapa.....
Mar a bhí pleanáilte againn tháinig muid as an bpáirc ar cosán taobh an bhóthair. Tar éis sin áfach chasamar ar dtreo mícheart agus thánamar ar feirm beag. Baineadh geit ceart as na cearc agus na sicín leis na Gaeilgeoirí go léir ag teacht ina dtreo! Chasamar ar ais..
Fuaireamar na treoracha ceart ó cúpla leaids a bhí ar a rothair. Seo an “cosán” a thógamar. Bhí sé go h-an deas ar fad!

Beidh mé ag féachaint go mór leis an céad siúlóid eile. Bhí an t-am againn agus bhí siúlóid maith againn, bhuel sin mar a deir ár gcosanna ar aon nós!
Aimsir breá a bhí againn agus comhluadar deas. Chuaigh dháréag ann 's tháinig dháréag ar ais. Cinnte, bhí tús agus deireadh maith leis an lá seo!

A good start...
We had a good start w/ the weather, it was a beautiful day. We were lucky because it had been raining for the entire week. We met in Piccadilly station, Manchester. Boots, sandwiches and off we we set.
When we got to Marple Bridge we then walked to Etherow country Park.
Éamon did up some pages w/ pictures and names of every plant, flower and tree! The birds were all known by Tony, he's a keen birdwatcher and I don't think there's a bird out there that he doesn't know about. Well done lads!

There were twelve of us there in total. And the people that we are (a bit mad on the look for an adventure) we went a different route to the map.....
As was planned we came out of the park to a path at the side of a road. After that however, we turned the wrong way and came upon a small farm. The hens and chickens got a right fright w/ all the Irish speakers coming there way! We turned back..
We got the right directions from a couple of lads out on there bikes. There's pictures posted of the “path” we then took. It was absolutely gorgeous there!

I'll definitely be looking forward to the next walk. We had a great time and a really nice walk or so our feet tell us anyway! We had lovely weather and nicer company. Twelve went and twelve came back. Certainly, there was a good start and end to this day!

Bring a packed lunch, waterproof and wear suitable footwear (walking boots or trainers). We will name the flora and fauna in Irish and do a bit of bird-watching or whatever takes your fancy on the day.

Meet at Piccadilly Station at 10. 50 a.m. for train to Marple station.

Alternatively meet at Marple station at 12. 00 noon (free parking at and opposite the station) or at the visiter’s centre at Etherow Country Park at 12. 30 p.m.
